Welcome

President’s Message – Sept 2006

Our mission is to promote mediation/arbitration as an alternative means in resolving disputes and to arrange practical training to its members.

A group of enthusiastic MAArbDR graduates (2006) established the CityU ADR Alumni Association (CAAA) in June 2006 to promote mediation / arbitration as an alternative means to resolve disputes. Formed with the blessing of the School of Law and Development and Alumni Relations Office of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), the association is offering practical training for any alumni who are interested in pursuing that path. If you would like to join the CAAA or know more, please come and visit this website again or contact us at enquiry@caaa.org.hk.¨

Welcome to the website of the CityU ADR Alumni Association (CAAA), this is currently under construction and due to be completed in the next few weeks. A small group of our MAArbDR classmates met a year ago for a get together and talked about what the CityU course meant to us post graduation. At the gathering we raised concerns about the lack of opportunities available to the graduates to enter the highly competitive community of arbitration and ADR specialists. We considered ways in which we could best lobby the profession on behalf of the growing number of ADR graduates who wish to pursue a career in arbitration and ADR. Hence the CAAA was founded, which we hope will provide an introduction, a stepping stone, a through door to the arbitration and ADR community of professionals.

As the elected President of the inaugural Executive Committee of the CAAA, it is my very great pleasure to say, “Welcome to the CAAA!” We hope that the CAAA will become a dynamic association for the graduates of MAArbDR of CityU. To achieve this we need your support and membership. The CAAA has been fortunate to be sustained by the following advisors, Professor Peter Malanzcuk, Mr. Philip Yang, and Mr. Christopher To. All of you must know much about these eminent professionals. Their support to the establishment of the CAAA is a huge encouragement to us. We are committed to securing for the CAAA a permanent place in the ADR community and we hope that each of you will join us in partnership to advance this goal and to aid the development of our members in achieving the requisite standard of ADR and to assist on their entry and acceptance into the ADR community of Hong Kong.

Set out below is part of our aims:
(a) To maintain close link with CityU’s School of Law;
(b) To support the progression of trained ADR postgraduates to the status of qualified ADR practitioners by organizing training and technical activities for members;
(c) To seek opportunities for members to serve the community with ADR services;
(d) To promote activities among Members of the Association and to establish and maintain contacts with institutions of ADR education and the ADR professions in Hong Kong and elsewhere.

The CAAA belongs to all of us. You are cordially invited to register for your membership. Please visit our website for more detail information and feel free to contact us for any inquiries.
